Character Creation

General Rules

Players must submit a 10-level build plan to the DM before committing to the build you chose; that way, you are not surprised if something gets banned. If players would like restricted content added, they must talk to the DM about inclusion and give suggestions on their use and how they could be integrated into the world. If your character would start with environment-based content, please give a plausible reason in their backstory for them to know of this content. Character sheets must be made on Mythweavers and posted in your character thread in the server first. Once you are finished, and have joined the Roll20 game, you will be assigned a Roll20 character sheet which you will also need to fill out minimally (no need for spell and equipment tracking, as it is done on Mythweavers).

  • Starting Level 3
  • Ability Scores (options)
    • 30 PB
    • Roll 2 arrays and pick one (reroll if the sum of your scores is lower than 65 or higher than 85)
    • Make a thread in the forum channel in Discord labeled "#scars-characters" using your character's name as the title (it may be edited later). Use the Avrae bot in Discord to roll (using the command !rollstats in the forum thread you made)
  • HP
    • Max at 1st level
    • For every level after you may choose to take average or roll, once you make this decision, you must stick with it for every level
  • Flaws/Traits (all sources of these are allowed, except 3rd party or homebrew)
    • 2 each
    • 1 feat per flaw
  • Starting gold per the WBL chart
    • 1st level: No singular item can be worth more than ½ your starting gold
    • After 1st level: No singular item can be worth more than ¼ your starting gold
    • When crafting items for yourself on character creation, you cannot reduce an item's value to lower than half of its market price
  • No favored classes
  • No multiclassing penalty
  • Action Points modified
  • All spells/powers/etc. and inventory on your character must also be listed in your character channel (the forum post you rolled your stats in and post your sheet link in)
    • Normally shouldn't have to do this, but I have had a problem with cheaters in the past lying about what their characters have in their inventories
  • Be sure to consult The Index for all houserules and homebrew used when making your character

Note from the DM: This campaign is a continuous WIP, meaning that everything is subject to change at any time. Core mechanics will be the same as standard, and I will try to keep any additions in line with how the core mechanics function. But remember that if something that gets introduced does not have a precedent, I will write something in for it.

If a mechanic is adjusted that would need reallocation of skill points or other character decisions, you will be allowed to do so in a way that reflects that change.

Whenever I make new content for the campaign, there will be an announcement in the announcement channel on Discord. It will only be pinged once, so check it periodically throughout the day to see if it has been updated. I will also ask for feedback on content. For my sanity, I ask that you provide feedback and offer constructive criticism and suggestions on changing it rather than simply complaining. Responses that will be ignored include any that only suggest removing it or any that are simple complaints.

Please keep your Mythweavers and any third-party trackers you use neat and tidy. If I cannot find a record of something being used with a cursory examination, it is not on your sheet for all intents and purposes. If something is not on your sheet or in any record accessible to the DM, it cannot be used.

Misc

Content Restrictions

  • 1st & 2nd party content allowed
  • No homebrew or 3rd party content
  • ACF's, Dragon/Dungeon Magazine, Savage Species content must be approved (except Traits/Flaws, see above)
  • Setting specific/regional feats are not explicitly allowed. If you would like to use them, please work with the DM to try and work it into the world. Examples include (but are not limited to):
    • Dragonmarked content from Eberron
    • Regional/Racial content of races/regions that don't exist in the world
  • Environmental content is restricted to that environment, if you do not visit/research the environment, you cannot learn/use the content

Backgrounds/Backstories

At 1st level, players must select one of the backgrounds for their character.

If a player writes up a comprehensive, but not exhaustively long, backstory for their character, they may pick an item from the MIC as their background item. It must make sense in your backstory for your character to have it, and it must be approved by the DM before it is allowed. Please get creative with your backstory, as you will be helping me shape the world around you. As all things, it may be subject to slight change depending on existing things in the world.

Your background item must follow these criteria to be approved:

  • Levels 1–3: Work with the DM on what would be appropriate
  • Level 4+: Must be worth no more than ¼ WBL
  • Cannot be a Specific item
  • Cannot be part of an item set

Other

  • Players may not start with Level Adjustment greater than ¼ their ECL (min +1 or +0 in the case of LA +0) if choosing to play something with Level Adjustment
    • Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis

Character Forum Post
It is mentioned several times throughout the rules that players must include things in their character forum post. I am putting a quick synopsis of what needs to be in there for redundancy's sake.

  • Character sheet
  • Ability score rolls
  • List of spells/powers/etc.
  • List of items
