Origins
Long ago, Tenakhaal was a Triton—fierce, loyal, and sworn to defend his people. But war dragged him inland, and he found himself stranded, gills seared dry, flesh splitting under a relentless sun. With no deities answering his cries, he turned to something older and crueler. A demon lord of undeath offered him power in exchange for what little remained of his soul. Tenakhaal accepted, and in that moment, he ceased to be mortal. Transformed into a dry lich, preserved in bitterness and salt, he wandered the coasts and deserts gathering others broken by loss. Over centuries, their devotion swelled, and the husk that once was Triton rose beyond undeath into divinity.
Description
What remains of Tenakhaal no longer resembles a living thing. His form is that of a mummified Triton—thin, shriveled, and caked with crystalline salt. Coral fragments jut from his joints, and the light in his eyes burns with a dry, endless rage. His gills, sealed like old scars, never draw breath. Wherever he appears, the air grows dry and sharp, and the ground cracks beneath his feet. Worshippers say he arrives in a hot gust of wind that tastes of blood and sea. His followers build no grand temples—only carved warnings on cliff faces or crude altars in sun-bleached wreckage. His presence is felt in the hush before a sandstorm or in the first bite of thirst on a long march.
Dogma
Tenakhaal teaches that compassion is a lie and mercy a weakness. He was denied his nature and left to die, and so he preaches vengeance on a world that turns its back. Salt is not a blessing; it is what remains after the life has gone. His faithful seek not preservation but punishment—spreading pain, drought, and the bitter truth that bonds break and trust fails. His mark is carved into bone, stone, or flesh, left behind to remind all who pass that suffering is the only honest teacher.
Home Sphere
Tenakhaal’s home is Cyrintha, a temperate oceanic world deep within the Inundatio Sphere. Here, wide archipelagos and scattered island continents rise from endless blue, crowned with sloped gardens, tiled courtyards, and towering pagodas built by ancient seafaring dynasties. The people of Cyrintha live by the tides, guided by the stars and the passing of three moons. Once, Tenakhaal swam in these warm waters, a defender of his kin. Now, his shadow haunts its shores. Salt-withered shrines lie hidden among volcanic ridges, where cultists perform rites under moonlight, calling for drought and ruin upon those who exiled him to die. Even the storms that lash Cyrintha’s coasts are said to carry his voice, whispering vengeance over the waves.
