Astral Plane

Overview

The Astral Plane, a mysterious and otherworldly realm, serves as a vital conduit connecting the Material Plane to the myriad Outer Planes that sprawl across the multiverse. This enigmatic realm is infinitely expansive, stretching endlessly in all directions beyond mortal comprehension.

The Astral Plane, with its timeless flow and eerie emptiness, remains a profound enigma in the tapestry of the multiverse. It is a place where travelers can tread the ethereal pathways between worlds, where the very essence of reality is distilled into an endless expanse of emptiness and possibility.

Within the Astral Plane, the concept of time takes on an intriguing and perplexing quality. While time in the Astral Plane moves at the same rate as it does on a Prime Material plane, its effects are peculiarly altered. Here, the relentless march of time seems to slow almost to a standstill, casting a surreal and contemplative ambiance over the barren expanse.

Accessing the Astral Plane can be achieved through one of two distinct methods, each offering its own unique experience. The first method involves the arcane art of astral projection, where individuals project their ethereal astral forms into the Astral Plane, temporarily leaving their corporeal bodies behind. The second method is the physical entry into the plane, a more perilous and adventurous approach where one traverses the planar boundaries, crossing into the surreal void itself.

The Astral Plane presents itself as a stark and desolate void, a realm of ethereal nothingness that extends indefinitely in all directions. It is a place of profound emptiness, where the only semblance of solidity comes from isolated fragments of matter, severed from their original planes and left adrift in this formless void.

Gravity has no dominion here, and individuals who find themselves within the Astral Plane experience weightlessness. Although the void lacks a gravitational pull, objects still retain their mass. This curious property allows explorers to push off from solid objects or lightly propel small items to navigate the boundless, weightless environment.

Properties

  • Physical
    • subjective directional gravity
    • timeless (Age, hunger, thirst, poison, and natural healing don’t function in the Astral Plane, though they resume functioning when the traveler leaves the Astral Plane)
    • Magically morphic
  • Energy/Alignment - mildly neutral-aligned
  • Magic - Enhanced magic. All spells and spell-like abilities used within the Astral Plane may be employed as if they were improved by the Quicken Spell feat. Already quickened spells and spell-like abilities are unaffected, as are spells from magic items. Spells so quickened are still prepared and cast at their unmodified level. As with the Quicken Spell feat, only one quickened spell can be cast per round.
  • Planar Relations - Material Plane (coterminous), Outer Planes (coterminous)
