The Cineræxis Sphere

Overview

Cineræxis is a sphere where everything seems to burn, even the silence. Wildspace here isn’t cold—it shimmers with dry heat, like the whole place is holding its breath inside a forge. Ships crackle with static just crossing into the system, and seasoned crews go quiet as the pressure mounts. At the heart of it all is Sahr’kanaar, not a sun, but a stable manifest zone where the Elemental Plane of Fire presses into reality. It doesn’t roar or pulse—it just exists, constant and consuming, a wound that never heals.

Surrounding it is the Cage of Brael, a relic of the Ancient Antærans and the only thing keeping the sphere from tearing itself apart. It’s a fractured lattice of tan-colored starmetal, suspended in perfect balance by enchantments no one’s been able to replicate. Though broken in form, the structure still holds the rift in check. Each jagged spire hovers at just the right angle, as if following instructions written into the fabric of space itself. Pilots passing too close tell of strange gravitational shifts, shadows that move the wrong way, and heat that turns cold for just a breath—then returns, doubled.

Orbiting along the inner track is the Belt of Cinderglass—a radiant field of Fire Planar Crystals, said to be the purest of their kind in all the spheres. These aren’t inert space rocks; they’re condensed shards of elemental flame, each one alive with flickering color and the low hum of power barely contained. Some glow like coals, others pulse like dying stars. They're beautiful, mesmerizing—and lethal. Ships that drift too near can erupt without warning, their helms frying mid-cast and hulls blackening in moments. Survivors speak of the crystals whispering through the heat, not in voice, but in feeling. A few daring salvagers have brought back slivers, used to power relics or fuel devastating spells, but most who enter the Belt are never seen again.

Drifting past the Belt, tangled in the orbit of a shattered moon, lies the Red Vault. Built during the Flamebound Concord’s final century, this forge-ark once shaped sentient heat into weapons of war. Now it’s broken, partly submerged in slag, still radiating forge-hymns through the void. Every few years, a ship picks up a new verse, never heard before—sung in a tongue no one's recorded. Some think the Vault’s still making something. Others say it’s remembering.

Inner Track (<200 million miles)

  • Planet Name: Solhara

    • Distance: 70 million miles
    • Size Category: C
    • Planet Type: Fire
    • Shape: Oblate Spheroid
    • Other Notes: Solhara is a planet of molten seas and unending pyroclastic storms, where no true land exists save for the hardened basalt volcanoes that rise from the fire like blackened spires. Around these, drifting continents of scorched stone float atop the magma tides, forming the fractured domains of the magma drakes. They are ruled by a primeval wyrm of impossible age and size—an elder dragon whose name is never spoken, only invoked in rumbling chants. None know her origin, not even her most devoted scions, though some whisper she fell from the stars before the sphere was formed, while others claim she was birthed in the first eruption of the plane itself. Her brood builds basalt citadels around vent-cloaked calderas, where kobold servants etch prayers into obsidian walls and tend the rivers of fire that feed their forges and rites. All who enter Solhara do so beneath her unblinking gaze.
  • Planet Name: Aevzakar

    • Distance: 110 million miles
    • Size Category: D
    • Planet Type: Fire
    • Shape: Spherical
    • Other Notes: Aevzakar is a world of shattered badlands, carved by tectonic fury and scarred by immense chasms that yawn across its surface. Great volcanoes rise like blackened gods, belching endless ash and toxic gas into the air, cloaking the sky in perpetual soot-stained night. The land never knows true daylight—only the red glow of lava rivers and the flicker of lightning in the smog. Its surface teems with fire elementals, mephits, cindersprites, and other creatures born of flame, all drawn to the planet’s primal heat. Dominating the skies are rival flights of bronze and green dragons, locked in an endless cold war of territory and pride. Their servants—kobolds, drakes, and flame-marked dragonborn—carve out enclaves along the cliffs and crater-lips, fighting proxy wars beneath the smoking heavens while their masters circle high above, watching and waiting.
  • Planet Name: Belt of Cinderglass

    • Distance: 160 million miles
    • Size Category: —
    • Planet Type: Fire
    • Shape: Belt
    • Other Notes: The Belt of Cinderglass is a ring of drifting Fire Planar Crystals, each shard radiating intense heat and volatile magic. The crystals shift slowly through space, but their movement is unpredictable, and contact with a ship’s hull can trigger violent explosions. The Ember Consortium—a Mercane-operated mining guild—runs a fortified outpost here, using specially warded spelljamming vessels that repel the shards with arcane barriers. Their crews extract and stabilize the crystals for trade, shipping them to Vorthuun where they’re sold as power sources, enchantment cores, and rare alchemical catalysts. Visitors speak of strange visions in the fire and whispers in the void, but the profits keep the mining crews coming.

Goldilocks Zone (200–300 million miles)

  • Planet Name: Kaedros

    • Distance: 220 million miles
    • Size Category: E
    • Planet Type: Fire
    • Shape: Spherical
    • Other Notes: Kaedros is a blistering world of obsidian sand, each grain honed smooth by aeons of scouring flamewinds. Beneath the heat-shimmered sky stretch black dunes, broken by fireglass ridges and rare oases that bubble with sulfuric hot springs. Its cities, carved into basalt cliffs and glowing with enchanted glass, are ruled by fire genasi sultans whose courts burn with ancient pride. Lesser fire elementals—mephits, cindersprites, and flickerlings—serve them in kind. Most prized of all are their red and gold dragon companions, honored as mounts and kin, though not always tame. Beyond the sultans’ reach, these dragons wage brutal aerial wars over the lawless wastes, their clashes carving canyons through the desert floor. The Kaedrosi trade in living flame and elemental craft—obsidian latticework, heat-bound scrolls, and perfumed smoke that dances like music—coveted by spelljamming noble houses across the spheres.
  • Planet Name: Caer Vhal

    • Distance: 270 million miles
    • Size Category: E
    • Planet Type: Earth
    • Shape: Spherical
    • Other Notes: Caer Vhal is a vast, sun-blasted world of shimmering deserts, its surface a sea of radiant heat broken only by towering mesas. The flat tops of these formations have been scorched to molten glass by centuries of unrelenting sun and ambient planar fire, creating glinting mirrors that blind the unprepared. Beneath the surface lie sprawling cave networks rich with rare minerals and glowing veins of ore. The planet is home to a powerful civilization of earth elemental creatures—gargoyles, xorns, and crystal-wrought beasts—ruled by noble sultans of earth genasi blood. These stoneborn dynasties govern from citadels carved into the bases of mesas and deep beneath the desert floor, where subterranean palaces glitter with gemstone mosaics and mineral wealth. Beyond their reach, rival flights of copper and blue dragons contest the untamed wastes, their servants—kobolds, drakes, and dust-marked dragonborn—skirmishing endlessly for control. While often independent or aloof, some dragons forge alliances with the genasi courts, serving as honored companions and formidable mounts, their might called upon in times of war or ceremony.

Outer Track (>300 million miles)

  • Planet Name: Thulzarith

    • Distance: 410 million miles
    • Size Category: F
    • Planet Type: Earth
    • Shape: Spherical
    • Other Notes: Thulzarith is a tomb world, its crust split by ancient fractures and cooled veins of once-molten fury. The air is unbreathable, the surface choked with ash and slag, and nothing stirs save for the heat-bleached bones of forgotten titans. Ruins of battle-torn cities sprawl across the wasteland—shattered spires, melted gates, and broken statues buried in layers of blackened dust. Once the heart of a great civilization, Thulzarith is now a planetary tomb, its silence broken only by the groan of settling stone and distant echoes no one can trace. Lore-whisperers on Kaedros and Caer Vhal speak of it as their ancestral origin—a cradle of fire and stone, abandoned after some final war erased even memory. The only known inhabitants are ancient elemental predators—shale beasts, ember wraiths, and obsidian crawlers—that hunt anything foolish enough to disturb the silence. Spelljammers still land here seeking relics, but few return, and those who do speak of scorched monuments, smoldering glyphs, and the sensation of being watched by something vast and long-entombed.
  • Planet Name: Vorthuun

    • Distance: 590 million miles
    • Size Category: E
    • Planet Type: Water
    • Shape: Spherical
    • Other Notes: Vorthuun is a jewel of steam and stone—a warm oasis world veiled in rising mists and ringed with shimmering freshwater basins. Its oceans are thick with sulfuric brine, hot and acrid, filling the air with a sharp tang that keeps most vessels far from shore. Yet scattered across the land are mineral-rich hot springs, glowing softly in hues of blue, amber, and rose-gold, prized for their healing and meditative properties. Spelljammers from across the spheres journey here to soak in the waters, seeking relief from curse, fatigue, or burden. At its heart lies Meridion, a city of ivory domes and glimmering canals, carved into the caldera of an ancient spring. Meridion serves as a vital trade hub for exotic and luxury goods—rare salts, perfumed oils, enchanted silks, and medicinal minerals. The planet itself is owned and operated by a loose consortium of Mercane-run guilds, each controlling sections of trade, transportation, and commerce under complex charters and ancient agreements.
